13/3/15 Farmers CC achieve Jersey Clubmark

Farmers CC are the first cricket club  in Jersey to achieve Jersey Clubmark status having met high quality standards in sports club management, safety, coaching and competition and off-island travel.

Farmers Caesareans has three league teams, one in each of Jersey Cricket's weekend leagues as well as an active social side that plays friendly matches, attracting many overseas touring sides. The Farmers Cricket Club has its own ground in St Martin which was opened by Geoff Boycott in 2005.  The Farmers Field has become a very popular venue with players and spectators.

Constable Steve Pallett, Assistant Minister for Sport, said: "I am delighted that one of our premier cricket clubs has achieved such high standards in reaching Clubmark status.  For such a relatively new club, Farmers have made remarkable progress by providing both well-established facilities in St Martin and skilled and motivated coaches that have allowed the club to grow and be so successful."

Nikki Holmes, Sports Club Officer, said: "Having been at the opening of the Farmers ground in 2005 I'm delighted that the club is the first cricket club to achieve Jersey Clubmark.  The committee have worked hard to achieve accreditation and it's fully deserved."

Gary Kynman, Welfare Officer for Farmers, said: "Working towards the Clubmark award has provided the club and its members an opportunity to set new challenges as part of its ongoing development.  During the last twelve months we have improved the club's safety, its facilities and most importantly cricket development for young players.  I would actively encourage all clubs to work towards Clubmark status.  Our experience has demonstrated that a lot can be achieved in a relatively short period of time and provides a solid foundation to a healthy club and its continuing development for years to come."

Ward Jenner, JCB Chairman, said: "The Jersey Cricket Board has been promoting club development as part of its five year strategy and we're pleased to be able to present Farmers with a cheque for £500 from funds provided by NatWest to support club development."

Steven Hunt of sponsors Carey Olsen, said: "Carey Olsen has been pleased to sponsor Farmers Caesareans CC since 2009 during which time we have seen the club flourish.  To achieve Jersey Clubmark accreditation is a credit to the club and a reflection of the dedication of its members to cricket in Jersey."
